Happy New Year! It was back to life, back to reality yesterday and Camden and I were both sad to watch Nathan head to work. The holiday fog is starting to lift but the tree is still up! Sigh. We decided to do a day date to Pitch Perfect 3 (meh) and an early dinner on New Year’s Day instead of taking it down and that was a-ok with me. Please tell me some of you still have your Christmas decorations up, too…

Nathan and I both started Whole30 yesterday! He sent me a “Surprise! I’m going to do Whole30 with you!” text randomly mid-day yesterday and I was thrilled! Let’s face it, he was going to be eating mostly Whole30 compliant dinners but it’s awesome to be in this together. He actually has a couple of work trips scheduled this month so he is going to have it much harder than me and I’m super proud of him for taking it on! I plan on doing a little Week One recap on the blog next week (what we ate, why we are doing this) but until then I’ve been trying to share my experience over on InstaStories. I feel like this is a total theme with every post I’ve read on the topic lately but man, 2017 was a hard year, wasn’t it? Don’t get me wrong, there were some amazing things that happened and beautiful memories made but overall I wouldn’t rank it very high and the end of 2017 downright stunk for our family. Here’s to 2018, a fresh start, a renewed sense of our priorities, and reaching those goals!

Nothing, ever again. The social engagements of the last two weeks have just about killed me. But I’m super happy to be “scheduling things” in my new planner. The joy a new planner brings me is unmatched. Do you guys still use a paper planner? I’m so curious to know!

I just finished Winter Storm by Elin Hilderbrand and it was pretty good. If you have read and liked other books by Elin Hilderbrand you would enjoy it! I also read Merry & Bright by Debbie Macomber in one sitting during over Christmas while Camden was napping. I can’t tell you the last time it took me less than a month to read a book from start to finish let alone one day, but don’t take that to mean it was a great book. It was a fun, Christmasy read but nothing to write home about and predictable from start to finish. I started Rachel Jeffs’ book Breaking Free yesterday and I’m excited to dive in some more! In case you aren’t aware, Rachel Jeffs is the daughter of the FLDS (polygamist) cult leader Warren Jeffs and I have a weird fascination with polygamy. I’ve read several books about people who have been a part of the cult and gotten out (read this one multiple times) and it’s always so interesting to me.

We had some friends over on NYE (thank the good Lord for white noise machines) for snacks, drinks, and games and What Do You Meme was a big hit, have you guys played it? So terrible, but so so so funny! It’s in the same family of appropriateness as Cards Against Humanity (which we also played) so I wouldn’t suggest playing with your children or grandmother but for a group of adults with a certain sense of humor – so much fun!

    Yes to scheduling and 2017. December practically killed me with all the things scheduled and I am still paying for it in exhaustion. We, too, had a pretty rough 2017 and I honestly wasn’t sad to see it go. Good luck with Whole 30! We are doing a modified version of it (still eating a touch of dairy and a few whole grains since the boys eat exactly what we eat) but just generally trying to eat healthier and make better choices.

    I stole your layout for the linkup because I love that title/spacing so much! And your NYE sounds soooo fun! I’ve never heard of that What do you Meme game but am looking it up now…group games like that are my FAVE. Good luck with Whole30!

    I did the whole 30 last year and loved it!!! I am reading Bittersweet right now and really enjoying it. I like her style of writing. But I will definitely be checking out some of the books you listed, I’m always looking for something new to read!

    That’s awesome your husband is doing Whole30 with you – good luck! I still have decorations up in my house – outdoor lights and the tree mostly. I just think it’s fun to look at!!

    Omg, I love paper planners. They are the best.

    Ooh, I’m with you – the holidays were great, but I’m ready for a little break from being social! And good for you on the Whole30 – I was contemplating doing one again, and probably I should just bite the bullet. In my previous one it went the same way – my husband pretty much was forced into it for dinner, ha!

    our tree is down but I still have some winter decorations up that I will probably leave out a bit longer. The best thing about this time of year for me is that things seems to be quieter and we get some more down time. Good luck with whole30! Sierra~Beautifully Candid

    Oh my goodness…like you, 2017 ended on a very busy note. I’m hoping to simplify in 2018 and get back to the basics! Here’s to less chaos!

    Oh my gosh- a good planner is ESSENTIAL, especially when you’re a mom! I’m absolutely obsessed with my Happy Planner and have even color coded everything haha

    I love paper planners! I may or may not have three that I am currently using. Planner. Fanatic.

    I love these currently posts! Good luck with your Whole30 experience! I tried in in April and I think I lasted 14 days lol! BUT it was definitely the one ‘diet’ that I felt like I actually saw results. I know it’s not supposed to be a ‘diet’ but I felt like my body needed the cleanse from all the additives in all the processed foods I was used to eating. The first week I felt horrible, but by the second week I started getting into the grove. The food prep was intense though! I think that was the toughest part was finding the time to prepare meals!
